I guess other people have actually rewired the switch (removing it from the circuit) to get the same effect. It hasn't come out of that setting from moving the head around or gigs, so apparently I don't need to tape it or secure it. now that I know this "trick" I can recreate it at any time by just making sure that little switch is stuck "in between". WOW! I put it in the "in between" setting, and the entire amp exploded with additional volume and presence, eliminating the need for at least two pedals (mainly boosts). Finally, I decided to kick on the effects loop and start fiddling with that switch. This is supposedly the problem that Carvin fixed by the way. As I poked around on various forums I learned that there is a "trick" where one can put the effects loop dB switch on the back in an "in between" setting, and that the result is a 250% increase in volume. Yet I was under the impression that there was nothing further that could be done, since Carvin claims to be aware of and have fixed the issue. After I started using the amp, I noticed that it didn't seem quite as loud as I expected a 100w amp to be. I had heard that there were problems with volume (not enough), but that Carvin had fixed this issue late in 2010 and that all new models were fine. I recently purchased (August 2011) a brand new Carvin x100b Series IV reissue 100w amp head.
